Determine your tractor's PTO horsepower from the owner's manual. Select a gearbox rated at or above that figure. For severe-duty work (mulching, scrub clearing), add a 25-30% safety margin. Example: a 50 HP PTO tractor doing brush cutting should use a 65+ HP rated gearbox.

Lower ratios (1:1) give higher blade speed for fine finish mowing. Higher ratios (1:1.93 or above) trade speed for torque — ideal for thick brush and heavy vegetation. Calculate your target blade tip speed (typically 4,500-5,500 m/min for rotary cutters) to determine the optimal ratio.

Measure your existing gearbox mounting bolt pattern, input spline (1 3/8" Z6 or 1 3/4" Z20), and output shaft type (spline, taper, keyway, or flange). Our technical team provides free cross-referencing to match your exact requirements.
